Alan developed this Defensive Tactics program and has been training instructors at the Federal, State, and Local levels for over ten years. Alan possesses a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO and a Master's Degree in Management from Baker University in Kansas. He has work experience in both private and public prison industry of adult corrections as well as juvenile corrections and brings that knowledge to the Defensive Tactics 101 program. His experience is in security operations; investigations; and programs. Alan has held various management roles and has an extensive background in classroom instruction. He has instructed classes in the following areas: use of force, use of mechanical restraints, emergency procedures, verbal de-escalation skills, and CPR to name a few. Alan has also spent three years with the Missouri Criminal Investigations Bureau, as a Special Agent.
He has been actively involved with the martial arts disciplines of judo and jujitsu for over 14 years; and holds advance black belt certifications. Alan is the co-owner and instructor of Northland Jujitsu in Kansas City, Missouri. Alan has coached and competed in multiple Judo; Jiu-Jitsu; Sambo; and Grappling tournaments. He has coached several mma fighters and fought mma himself. Several of the fighters he has trained have won championships in their respective weight divisions
Alan serves as an expert witness and will conduct a critical incident review for any agency using the Defensive Tactics 101 /Defensive Tactics Program. Alan is considered an expert in unarmed use of force scenarios through his experience teaching defensive tactics and working with out of control subjects.
Master Instructor Certification Program:
With budgets shrinking every year and turnover rates on the rise becoming a master instructor allows you to replenish the instructors at your organization, when you most need them. The MI certificate will save your organization money by not having to send all instructors to off-site training.
The cost for the DT 101 Forty (40) hour Defensive Tactics/Master Instructor Course is...$500
Master Instructor Requirements:
It is not required that a person has been trained in the DT 101 Program to become a master instructor, but it is helpful. It is recommended that each organization have two MI's...for team teaching, etc...but we realize many organization will only have one (1) MI...and that is fine.
The MI must email DT 101 the dates a new instructor was trained and the name of the new instructor. DT 101 will send the new instructor an instructor certificate signed by the DT 101 President and that certificate will also need to be signed by the MI at the organization. The organization will be invoiced for $300 per person that the MI makes an instructor. All Master Instructor and Instructor certificates are valid for three (3) years.
Note: There is no charge if the MI trains end users at their organizations; there is only a charge if the MI wishes to train other instructors.
The DT 101 forty (40) hour Defensive Tactics Program is a master instructor course that is taught in a five day session. Course hours will be 8:00am to 5:00pm each day. Training manuals and instructor certificates (valid for three years) will be provided. The certificates will include the name of master instructor and the name of the organization that master instructor is assigned to. Participants need to wear comfortable clothing for mat work. It is requested that individuals come ready to participate.
